What is SBAE

SBAE
School-Based Agricultural Education (SBAE) is a proven model, with over 100 years of success, that positions youth as early adopters of innovations, transforming them into community change agents.
Schools serve as hubs for economic development, fostering food security, and breaking cycles of poverty.

SBAE has two main objectives

and adopts an intersectoral approach, involving education and agriculture ministries, the private sector, and development partners.

Positive Youth Development:

Through hands-on, experiential learning, SBAE equips young people with academic, vocational, and life skills that expand their employment and educational opportunities.

Rural Livelihoods:

By introducing the latest agricultural innovations into homes and communities through youth, SBAE strengthens food security and builds resilient rural communities.

The model comprises
four interlinked components

Classroom instruction

School demonstration farms

Home entrepreneurship projects

Leadership development

Teachers trained in holistic learning pedagogy and agricultural technologies diffuse these ideas to students, who apply them in school and home farms. This hands-on approach promotes farming as a profitable business, building leadership, entrepreneurship, and life skills.
